Good Point Jim. Most engineering notebooks are hard bound, so they don't open up flat. This takes up a lot of space in a meeting table or a lab bench. This Ampad is spiral bound, so it I can fold it back over, and have more room on my bench. It's also stiffer when folded over, so I don't need a table to write on, another plus. All the pages are numbered, so there's some traceability there for patents, although I'm not sure it's relevant now.

The paper is pretty good, probably 16 to 18 pound, and it's cream/light yellow colored. I don't get much smearing/feathering when I write, although I'm using Pilot G-tec-C 0.4 pend right now on it, so not much ink is going down.
